From August 17th to September 17th, in celebration of the 75th birthday of composer Arvo Pärt, Estonia hosts the 2010 Arvo Pärt Festival.

On Friday, 16 July, the greatest and most prestigious festival of classical music in the world, the BBC Proms, begins in London. Thanks to the lasting collaboration between the BBC and the Euroradio network, a number of the BBC Proms performances are broadcast also on Estonia’s Klassikaraadio.

The 2010-2011 season, which is the 16th, will feature the music of legendary classics, such as Sibelius and Leifs, alongside the premiers of recent works by several young composers: Jon Øyvind Ness (Norway), Mirjam Tally (Estonia), Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmbreen (Denmark), and Uljas Pulkkis (Finland).

On 26 March, the latest instalment in the series devoted to contemporary Estonian music, “Estonian Composers VI”, is presented live on Klassikaraadio.

Klassikaraadio’s 7-part series, Rostrum 2009, is on the air again from 9 February. The weekly listening sessions are dedicated to the new music presented at the 2009 International Rostrum of Composers.

“Good music makes life much better! – Turn your day into a work of art!” Such is the message sent by Klassikaraadio to music-loving TV-viewers via the recent campaign on Estonian Television.
