Väga soovitav lugemine on Zappa omaaegse abilise, tuntud klarnetisti ja arranžeerija David Ockeri blogi. Vaadake seda:

David Ocker aitas Zappat tema muusika ette valmistamisel Kent Nagano ja London Symphony Orchestra jaoks. Ning muidugi on Ocker Zappa puhul ka eelkõige huvitatud tema muusika klassikalise osa saatusest. Minu arvates on väga oliline selline lõik Ockeri kirjutisest:

“No matter what happens serious-composer-wise, all his albums and concerts and the stories about what he did and said will leave quite a legacy. But things won’t be the same if he doesn’t get that “serious composer” label. The difference is between entering the 250-year history of all Western Music or being a big fish in the 60-year pond of rock and roll.”

Minu meelest ongi just see kogu asja uba. Võiks isegi öelda, et terve Apostroofi saade sai minu poolt ette võetud just sedasama silmas pidades, mida David Ocker’gi siin kirjutab.

Teine David Ockeri kirjutis “In My Perfect World” on samuti väga hea lugemine. Päris põnevad on Ockeri poolt kokku pandud “näidiskavad” orkestritele, mis sisaldavad Zappa ühte “kergemini seeditavat” orkestripala Bogus Pomp (Võltshiilgus). Kas poleks ju kena selline kava:

• Witold Lutoslawski: Variations on a Theme of Paganini
• Igor Stravinsky: Pulchinella
• Frank Zappa: Bogus Pomp

“Bogus Pomp” on Zappa sõnade järgi “This piece is a parody of movie music cliches and mannerisms.” Lisaks ütles ta veel “Built into the compositions is a little psychodrama based on the idea that in an orchestra, the principal violist never gets a good solo. What happens in the minds of the other principal string players when the lowly viola gets all the hot licks? Something stupid, of course, culminating in the principal cellist’s improvised emotional outburst near the end of the piece. All of this is supported by cheesy fanfares, drooling sentimental passages and predictable ‘scary music.’”

Saates kuulame “Võltshiilguse” esitust 1983. aastast, kui siis veel noor dirigent Kent Nagano võttis ette juhatada Londoni Sümfooniaorkestrit, mille tulemusena ilmusid kaks albumit Frank Zappa orkestrimuusikaga.
